What Year Is Your Truck?
1968

How long have you owned your truck?
A year and a half

When you purchased your truck, what kind of truck were you looking for?
To be honest, I was looking for something new and modern. About nine months earlier, I had sold a 1969 Highboy, and a few months before that, a 1973 Camper Special. I was ready to be done with “old trucks” as daily drivers.

I had planned to buy a much newer truck from a family member, but one day while scrolling local classifieds, I stumbled on what would soon become my 1968 Camper Special. A few days later, I abandoned the idea of buying a new truck — and brought home another old one instead.

If you could only share one story or experience with your truck, what would it be?
It’s mostly the same story as how I ended up with it. I had told myself I was DONE with old trucks. Time for something modern with all the comforts and conveniences. But sometimes these old trucks have a way of pulling you right back in. Little did I know, I’d end up behind the wheel of another 50+ year old rig — and loving it.

What upgrades have you made to the truck?
I’ve done a handful of reliability upgrades:

  • Electronic ignition

  • Electric fans with a fan controller

  • New radiator

Overall, though, the truck came to me in very drivable condition. It’s currently running alloy wheels and true dual exhaust.

What are your future plans with the truck?
I plan to drive it and keep it as original as possible. One big consideration I’m weighing is fuel injection — I’ve added it to other vehicles in the past, and it greatly improved both reliability and drivability.
